The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra performs "The Year 1917," featuring Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 12, this Friday at the Auditorio de Tenerife under the baton of Víctor Pablo Pérez.

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra presents the fifth concert of its 2026/2027 season this Friday, featuring a program that explores the themes of personal triumph and 20th-century political change. Titled The Year 1917, the performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Auditorio de Tenerife, led by conductor Víctor Pablo Pérez and featuring pianist Simon Trpceski.

The evening centers on Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. More than just a technical masterpiece, the piece represents the composer’s creative comeback after a period of artistic struggle and remains a cornerstone of the piano repertoire. The second half of the concert shifts to the historical drama of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 12. Composed in 1961, the work reflects on the Russian Revolution and Lenin, offering a complex look at how Shostakovich balanced historical narrative with his own critical perspective.

To provide further insight into the music, José Lorenzo Chinea of Atadem will host a free lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium’s Sala Avenida.

The orchestra is also continuing its "Lanzadera Sinfónica" bus service, provided in partnership with Titsa, to help attendees travel to the venue from across the island. Those wishing to use the bus must book their seat by 11:00 p.m. tonight. Tickets for the concert are available through the Tenerife Symphony website, by phone, or at the Auditorium box office.
