The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Pablo González and featuring baritone Egils Siliņš, performs an ambitious program of Mussorgsky and Stravinsky this Friday at the Auditorio de Tenerife.

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra takes on one of its most ambitious programs of the season this Friday. The concert, which explores two pillars of 20th-century Russian music, begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorio de Tenerife’s Symphony Hall. Conductor Pablo González will lead the performance, which also marks the debut of Latvian baritone Egils Siliņš with the orchestra.

The program centers on a contrast between human mortality and the power of fantasy. The first half features Modest Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death, performed in an orchestration by Dmitri Shostakovich. This demanding piece highlights the dramatic range of Siliņš, an internationally acclaimed singer who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera and the Bayreuth Festival.

The second half of the evening features Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird. This iconic work, which launched Stravinsky’s international career, is a landmark in modern orchestration. Under González’s direction, the performance will highlight the score’s evolution from its dark, mysterious beginnings to its triumphant conclusion.

To help audiences get the most out of the concert, the organizers have scheduled two pre-show events. At 6:30 p.m., Lourdes Bonnet will lead an informative session hosted by the Tenerife Association of Friends of Music (Atadem) in the Avenida Hall. At 6:45 p.m., a "Musical Lookout" session in the Castillo Gallery will give attendees the chance to meet the evening's performers.

For those traveling to the auditorium, the "Sinfónica Shuttle" offers free transport from various municipalities across the island. Seats must be reserved by 11:00 p.m. the night before the concert. Tickets are available through the orchestra’s website, by phone, or at the venue’s box office.
