Tenerife Stars as Key Filming Location in New Netflix Series 'Oasis'
Netflix’s new suspense series Oasis showcases Tenerife’s diverse landscapes, utilizing locations ranging from luxury resorts to industrial ruins to cement the island's status as a premier filming destination.
Tenerife has cemented its status as a premier filming destination with the release of Oasis, Netflix’s latest suspense series. The show has already drawn comparisons to high-budget international productions, with the island itself playing a central role in the mystery.
Starring Paco Tous, Ana Garcés, Tomy Aguilera, Victoria Kantch, and Verónica Sánchez, the series centers on a disappearance. The cinematography leans heavily on Tenerife’s diverse geography, contrasting the island’s luxury tourist resorts with its rugged, untamed landscapes.
The primary setting is the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora in Alcalá, renamed "Oasis Infinity" for the show. The hotel, famous for housing Europe’s largest saltwater hotel pool, was chosen for its seamless blend of modern architecture and the volcanic coastline of nearby La Jaquita beach, where night scenes were filmed.
The production also ventured to the north and west of the island, using the port of Garachico and the natural pools of El Caletón to anchor the story. The dramatic cliffs of Los Gigantes in Santiago del Teide provided the backdrop for sailing sequences, highlighting the area’s vibrant marine life, including dolphins and whales.
For the series' conclusion, the crew moved to the southeast, trading luxury for the stark, arid beauty of the coast. Filming took place at the abandoned 1940s-era Abades sanatorium and the 39-meter-tall Punta de Abona lighthouse. By utilizing everything from high-end resorts to industrial ruins, the production highlights why Tenerife has become a strategic asset for streaming platforms looking to give their stories a unique and striking visual identity.
