Tenerife South Named World’s Third-Best Airport in New Global Ranking

Spain’s airport sector has received a significant international boost. According to a new report from the platform AirAdvisor, Tenerife South Airport is now the highest-rated airport in Spain and the third best in the world. It outperformed major global hubs like Amsterdam-Schiphol, Rome-Fiumicino, and Los Angeles. The study, which analyzed 2025 punctuality data from Eurocontrol and over a million passenger reviews, ranks Tenerife South behind only London-Heathrow and Dublin.

The study’s methodology gives equal 40% weight to departure punctuality and passenger satisfaction, with the remaining score based on facility quality. Tenerife South earned an overall score of 14.81, bolstered by a 75% on-time departure rate over the past year. This success highlights the operational efficiency of AENA, the airport operator, which managed to place four of its airports in the global top twelve.

Spain’s performance in the rankings is particularly impressive, as it holds more top spots than any other country. Following Tenerife South, Palma de Mallorca Airport ranks fourth globally with 14.63 points, making Spain the only nation with two airports in the top five. Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat also performed well; while Barcelona scored highly for passenger satisfaction, Madrid-Barajas was slightly held back by its punctuality figures, despite its four-star Skytrax rating.

Tenerife South’s high ranking highlights the strategic importance of the Canary Islands as a gateway to Europe. The airport’s ability to balance a positive passenger experience with operational efficiency is crucial, especially as it prepares for the high-traffic summer season. As airport competitiveness increasingly relies on user experience, the AirAdvisor study confirms that Spain’s airport network remains a global leader.
