A joint operation at Tenerife South Airport by Granadilla de Abona authorities and police forces caught six unlicensed 'pirate taxis' and issued multiple reports for drug and traffic violations.

Authorities recently conducted a joint operation at Tenerife South Airport, catching six unlicensed 'pirate taxis'. The operation involved the Granadilla de Abona City Council and various transport departments.

During the checks, Granadilla Local Police issued two reports for drug possession, two for positive drug tests, and two for traffic violations. The six charges related to illegal transport were handled by the General Corps of the Canarian Police.

The operation involved a team of officers: three from the Canarian Police Transport Group (Grute), four from the Granadilla de Abona Local Police (including accident investigators, K9 handlers, and an airport officer), one patrol from the General Corps of the Canarian Police, and three patrols from the Granadilla Local Police. In total, they inspected 15 passenger cars and 11 passenger transport vehicles.

María Candelaria Rodríguez, the Councilor for Security, stressed that "these controls are essential to ensure user safety and to stop illegal practices that put those using these services at risk." She added that "illegal transport creates unfair competition for professional taxi drivers, who follow the rules, and directly affects the quality of service at a key location like the airport." Rodríguez highlighted the importance of different authorities working together, stating that "collaboration between administrations and police forces allows for more effective action against illegal operators and protects both citizens and the authorized transport sector."

This action is part of a wider strategy by the Granadilla de Abona City Council to ensure safe, legal, and high-quality transport. It aims to protect passengers and support the local taxi industry.
