Tenerife Solidifies Status as Global Film Hub Following Netflix’s ‘Oasis’ Premiere
Tenerife has solidified its position as a premier international filming destination following the successful production and Netflix premiere of the crime thriller Oasis.
The Canary Islands have cemented their status as a global hub for the film industry, highlighted by the recent Netflix premiere of Oasis. The series uses Tenerife’s diverse landscape as the core of its storytelling, a move that reflects a successful strategy to attract international productions through competitive tax incentives and versatile filming locations.
Directed by prominent Spanish filmmaker Ramón Campos, Oasis is a crime thriller set in a luxury resort. The production team chose the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora in Guía de Isora as its primary base. By filming at this resort—which features one of Europe’s largest saltwater pools—the crew was able to streamline logistics by keeping much of the technical work in one location.
The series also showcases Tenerife’s natural beauty and heritage. Scenes were filmed at La Jaquita Beach for its volcanic aesthetic, while the iconic Los Gigantes Cliffs and the Blue Flag-awarded Port of Garachico provide a striking visual backdrop. The show’s action also moves across the island, utilizing scenic routes like the TF-12 in Anaga and the TF-42.
For the series' climax, the production moved to the southeast of the island, filming at the former Abades Leprosarium and the Punta de Abona Lighthouse in Arico. The frequent use of these unique sites in major projects proves that Tenerife remains a highly competitive destination for international filmmakers, reinforcing the island’s role as a vital asset for global entertainment.
