The Valle Colino animal shelter in Tenerife issued an urgent warning after discovering poison and food laced with nails deliberately placed along the path to their centre, endangering animals and urging extreme caution from the public.

The Valle Colino animal shelter in Tenerife issued an urgent warning on Instagram this Tuesday. They found poison deliberately placed along the path leading to their center, calling it a "very serious" situation that puts animals' lives at risk.

In their post, the shelter asked for "maximum attention and wide dissemination." They warned that food laced with nails and poison pills is being left on the ground for dogs to eat.

Valle Colino stressed the urgency: "It is very urgent to take extreme precautions on the path and in the immediate vicinity of the path leading up to the shelter, specifically near the warehouses, because poison is being intentionally placed."

The shelter, located in Finca España, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, explained that the method is particularly dangerous. "They are leaving slices of chorizo with nails inside and poison pills, thrown on the ground for dogs to ingest," they added.

This isn't the first time this has happened; it's the second incident, and there have already been consequences. "Just today, we received photos," the shelter said. "A dog vomited not only poison pills but also pieces of chorizo filled with nails. If the owners hadn't noticed in time, the outcome would have been fatal."

Valle Colino emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stressing that it's not an accident. "This is not a joke or a prank; it is something very serious and deliberate," they stated in their social media message.

Because of this, they are urgently asking anyone walking in the area, especially dog owners, to be extremely careful and avoid any contact with suspicious items.

The shelter specifically requested: "Keep dogs well controlled, prevent them from eating anything off the ground, and be alert to any suspicious remains."

They also asked for public help: "If you see anything unusual, do not touch it and notify the police immediately."

The message ended with a call for everyone to help: "Together we can prevent a tragedy. Please spread the word."
