Tenerife Set for January Geothermal Drilling
Tenerife's government plans to begin drilling for geothermal energy in January, aiming to transform the island's power supply and replace fossil fuels.
Tenerife's government plans to start drilling in January to look for geothermal energy deep under the island. Juan José Martínez, the island's innovation chief, confirmed that preparations are underway to make this search possible.
"If we successfully find geothermal energy, we will completely transform how Tenerife gets its power," Martínez stated on Monday, November 24, while presenting the island's budget. The search for this energy source is part of nearly 35 million euros set aside for renewable energy by 2026.
Martínez highly praised geothermal energy, saying, "It can fully replace fossil fuels. It's constant, doesn't rely on the weather, and works 24/7. It takes up very little space and would open up many new development opportunities for Tenerife."
