Tenerife’s Water Management Systems Withstand Recent Heavy Rainfall

Tenerife’s water management systems successfully mitigated recent heavy rainfall, with authorities reporting no injuries or property damage as monitoring efforts continue.

Tenerife’s water management and natural risk prevention systems handled the recent bout of bad weather well, according to the Island Council’s operational center (Cecopin). No injuries or property damage were reported, proving that the island's active monitoring of vulnerable watercourses is working effectively.

Technical assessments show that runoff levels across the island stayed well within safe limits. For example, water levels in the Santos and Bufadero ravines rose by only 20 and 40 centimeters, respectively—figures that are considered normal for this type of weather.

This preventive approach is essential due to Tenerife’s steep landscape, where heavy rain can quickly channel into ravines and threaten urban areas or infrastructure. Managing these risks is a key part of regional planning, as the island’s terrain and soil make it particularly sensitive to sudden downpours.

Although the situation remains stable, Cecopin is continuing its monitoring efforts. Authorities are urging the public to stay alert, noting that emergency services remain on standby to respond immediately if the weather changes, ensuring the safety of both residents and local infrastructure.
