Tenerife’s Verano de Cuento Festival Adds Freestyle Rap to Summer Program
The 27th Verano de Cuento festival in El Sauzal, Tenerife, has launched a six-week summer program that integrates freestyle rap with traditional oral storytelling to engage diverse audiences.
The organizers of the 27th Verano de Cuento festival in El Sauzal, Tenerife, have announced their summer program, which puts a spotlight on lyrical improvisation. By officially adding freestyle rap to the schedule, the festival aims to bridge the gap between classical oral traditions and modern urban expression.
Supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Tenerife Island Council, the El Sauzal City Council, and the DISA Foundation, the festival will run for six consecutive Saturdays, starting this week and ending on August 29. All sessions are free and begin at 9:00 p.m. in the Plaza del Príncipe. The opening night will feature 22 artists, including Venom, Towel, Mk-Poeta, and Pinkk.
The festival is more than just entertainment; it is a display of quick thinking and rhetoric where the audience plays an active role by deciding the winners of each battle. This interactive format encourages social engagement and highlights freestyle as a modern form of public speaking. By mixing these rhyming battles with other stage performances, the festival is evolving to attract audiences of all ages through a blend of different cultural styles.
