Tenerife's Titsa Records Historic 87 Million Passengers in 2025
Titsa, Tenerife's public transport company, achieved a historic 2025 with a record 87 million passengers and two million trips, significantly expanding services and reducing CO2 emissions, attributed to increased investment and free bus travel.
Titsa, Tenerife's public transport company, significantly increased its services and passenger numbers last year. In 2025, the company ran 713 more daily trips than in 2022, reaching a total of two million trips for the year.
A record 87 million passengers used Titsa buses in 2025. This is more than double the number of passengers since free bus travel began on January 1, 2023, an increase of 40 million. Compared to 2024, passenger numbers grew by five million, or 6.13%, which officials described as a "historic" achievement.
Tenerife's island president, Rosa Dávila, shared these figures during a presentation at Titsa's depots and workshops in Cuevas Blancas, Santa Cruz. She also noted that the local government's investment in Titsa has increased by 300% over the past two and a half years.
Dávila was joined by Eulalia García, the Cabildo's Mobility Councillor, and Victoria Padilla, Titsa's General Manager. They highlighted that the busiest routes are in the south, carrying 21 million passengers in total, with Line 467 alone accounting for four million. In the Metropolitan Area, Lines 014 and 015 were also very popular, with five million and three million passengers respectively.
Despite the increase in daily trips and kilometers covered, Titsa managed to reduce CO2 emissions by 7.66% between 2024 and 2025. This was due to a "more efficient and modern network." Buses traveled 2.3 million more kilometers than the previous year, totaling 42 million across the island – the first time they've exceeded 40 million kilometers.
The increased investment has allowed Titsa to buy 342 new buses since 2023. This includes 70 buses arriving before next summer, among them 13 double-decker buses for longer routes. Another 25 buses will be bought in the first three months of this year. By 2026 and 2027, a total of 450 new vehicles will create a renewed, modern, and environmentally friendly fleet.
Eulalia García praised the Titsa team, calling their work "fundamental" to these impressive 2025 figures. She specifically mentioned the record for kilometers traveled and trips made. "We have surpassed the 40 million kilometers traveled barrier for the first time, completing a total of 42 million, 6.5 million more than in 2024," she stated. She added that "almost 100,000 more trips were made than the previous year, reaching two million for the first time."
García also noted that these achievements were supported by a larger workforce, with 376 new professionals joining since 2022, bringing the total to 2,196 employees. Titsa's CEO, Victoria Padilla, thanked all Titsa workers for their daily effort and commitment.
The most popular lines were 014 (Santa Cruz Interchange - La Laguna via La Cuesta), 467 (Costa del Silencio, Los Cristianos - Costa Adeje Station - La Caleta), and 015 (Santa Cruz Interchange - La Laguna express). Rosa Dávila praised the free travel policy, which she said they "fought hard for," even in the national Parliament. She believes this measure "is helping to ease road congestion and encourage the use of public transport, making it essential." She thanked Titsa professionals, calling them "a fundamental pillar of this change of pace occurring in the island's mobility."
Dávila added that they are "preparing Titsa for the future," giving it the resources to offer a better bus service focused on improving the user experience. She urged the public to "commit to buses, join this green revolution, and use this network, which is theirs, to collectively build the mobility we want on our island, where public transport gains increasing importance."
