Tenerife’s TF-82 Road to Reopen May 8 Following Landslide Repairs
The TF-82 road in Santiago del Teide is scheduled to reopen on May 8 following extensive stabilization work to address landslides that have blocked the route since November.
The TF-82 road in Santiago del Teide is set to reopen on May 8, according to the Cabildo de Tenerife. The road, which passes through the La Vetita area, has been closed since last November due to landslides. The recent repairs were focused on stabilizing the hillside to restore this vital southern transport route.
The project cost 448,577.68 euros. Under the leadership of island president Rosa Dávila, the work was designed as a long-term solution rather than a quick fix. The goal is to ensure the safety of drivers while protecting the nearby farmland.
Dámaso Arteaga, the Minister of Roads, explained that the main task involved clearing away unstable material to prevent future landslides. While the road will reopen on schedule, work will continue in the area. Once traffic returns to normal, the Cabildo plans to resurface the road and strengthen the side walls to ensure the infrastructure remains secure in the challenging mountain terrain.
This project highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining Tenerife’s mountain roads, which are prone to erosion and instability. The investment in Santiago del Teide reflects the island's commitment to balancing road safety with the protection of the surrounding rural environment.
