Tenerife’s TF-5 to Reopen Friday Following Two-Week Resurfacing Project

Traffic will return to normal in northwestern Tenerife this Friday night as the island council reopens the stretch of the TF-5 between Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque. The reopening marks the end of two weeks of road closures that have disrupted travel in the area.

The project involved resurfacing an 11-kilometer stretch of road, covering 60,000 square meters. Work began on August 30, starting with milling and leveling the surface before applying a cold micro-asphalt layer. Because this material requires specific weather conditions to set properly, authorities had to extend the initial nighttime closures to include daylight hours starting September 1.

The construction caused significant delays for local commuters, affecting access to Buen Paso, El Tanque, and El Amparo. While the work is being finalized, drivers are still being directed to use the TF-42 and TF-82 as alternative routes.

This project is part of ongoing maintenance to ensure road safety on a key route for northwestern Tenerife. With the work now complete, traffic flow is expected to return to normal, ending the inconvenience for local drivers.
