Tenerife’s TF-5 to Close for Two Weeks for Essential Road Repairs
A section of Tenerife’s TF-5 highway between Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque will close for approximately two weeks starting September 1 for essential road surface repairs.
Drivers in the north of Tenerife should prepare for significant travel delays starting at the end of August. The Island Council has announced that a section of the TF-5 Island Ring, between Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque (kilometers 50+900 to 62+200), will be closed to traffic for approximately two weeks to allow for essential road surface repairs.
The project involves laying cold micro-asphalt, a process that requires specific temperature and weather conditions to set properly. Because of these technical requirements, the work cannot be limited to nighttime hours, necessitating a full closure of the road.
The work will take place in two stages:
- Preparation: Overnight on August 30 and 31, between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
- Main Construction: Starting September 1, work will continue throughout the day.
This closure will affect access points at Icod de los Vinos, the junction toward El Amparo, and the entrance to El Tanque.
To help manage traffic, the island authorities have set up detours via the TF-42 and TF-82 roads for those traveling toward the south or toward Santa Cruz. Drivers are strongly encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time, as secondary roads are expected to become congested. Officials also emphasize the importance of following all temporary road signs to keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible.
This maintenance is part of an ongoing effort to keep Tenerife’s busy road network safe. Given the challenging terrain in this area, regular repairs are vital to maintaining reliable connections for the communities that depend on the TF-5.
