TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will host a day-long workshop on June 6 led by artist Teresa Correa, inviting the public to reimagine museum archives as dynamic, living spaces rather than static storage facilities.

The Canary Islands are currently debating how to manage cultural heritage, specifically whether archives should be seen as living spaces rather than just storage rooms for objects. To explore this, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is hosting a day of critical reflection led by visual artist Teresa Correa this Saturday, June 6, titled Giving Presence: Bodies Occupying the Archive. The initiative aims to challenge traditional museum practices, where static conservation can sometimes hide the historical tensions behind a collection.

The workshop runs from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and involves a direct visit to the storage facilities shared by MUNA and TEA. Correa’s approach goes beyond standard teaching; she invites participants to question traditional curatorial labels and view the archive as an evolving space where archaeology, natural history, and contemporary art meet. As part of the experience, staff from both institutions will lead a technical tour to explain how these repositories operate and how they can be used to tell new stories.

This event is part of La Plaza, a program designed to make institutional knowledge more accessible to the public. Participation is free, but attendees must commit to the full day. To register, please email laplaza.tallerestea@gmail.com with your full name, ID number, and a contact phone number. The project encourages a fresh, active, and inclusive look at how we preserve our collective memory.
