Tenerife’s Punta del Hidalgo Campsite Reopens Year-Round Following Major Upgrades
The Punta del Hidalgo campsite in La Laguna has reopened year-round following extensive renovations, providing a regulated and modern facility to address the critical shortage of motorhome infrastructure in Tenerife.
Tenerife’s lack of facilities for motorhome travelers has put the spotlight on the Punta del Hidalgo campsite in La Laguna, now one of only two officially approved sites on the island. Following recent renovations, the site is now open 365 days a year, meeting a long-standing request from the caravanning community.
This project reflects a push to professionalize a sector that has historically struggled to find regulated spaces. Supervised by the La Laguna City Council, the upgrades include modernized laundry areas, a restored central building, and accessible restrooms designed for people with reduced mobility. These improvements aim to provide a comfortable, organized alternative to illegal camping along the coast.
The 24,000-square-meter site features 78 plots with space for over 300 visitors, along with 89 parking spots and essential utilities like electricity, water, and hot water. Pricing is structured to reward longer stays, with base nightly rates ranging from 4.20 to 5.10 euros, plus additional fees for occupants, electricity, and vehicle type.
Beyond the technical upgrades, the campsite has become a hub for travelers who prefer reliable services over the uncertainty of wild camping. With new children’s play areas and nearby sports facilities, the site represents a shift in how these spaces are managed. By staying open year-round, the Punta del Hidalgo campsite not only fills a significant gap in the island’s infrastructure but also promotes a model of responsible, sustainable tourism in the Canary Islands.
