Tenerife's 'Most Christmassy House' Celebrates 30 Years
Tenerife's "Most Christmassy House in the Canary Islands," owned by Lorenzo Barroso, celebrates its 30th anniversary, dazzling visitors with 80,000 LED lights and free shows as a beloved island tradition.
In Tenerife, a house transforms into a spectacular display of Christmas lights, much like festive neighborhoods in the US or Lapland. This year marks its 30th anniversary, celebrating three decades since the owner first decided to fill his home with magic for everyone to enjoy an unforgettable Christmas.
Located in Valle de Guerra, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, this home, known by its owner Lorenzo Barroso as 'The Most Christmassy House in the Canary Islands,' has opened its doors again this year, as it has every year since 1995. What started as a simple neighbor's decoration has become one of the island's most cherished traditions. This enchanting spot offers free shows and dazzling Christmas lights for everyone to enjoy.
The house, found at Carretera de El Boquerón number 189, is covered in 80,000 LED lights that glow brightly at night and can be seen from far away. Every year, new Christmas decorations are added, making the display even more spectacular.
The tradition began with a string of blue lights Lorenzo's mother bought and put on the front door, at a time when Christmas home decorations weren't common. Since then, the display has grown to include light curtains, illuminated trees, and a giant Santa Claus – all now famous symbols of this magical Tenerife home.
This year's lights were switched on last Sunday, November 30th, with a special show to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of 'The Most Magical House in the Canary Islands.' Hundreds of people came to see the stunning display, which featured performances and dances outside the house. The crowd was so large that police even had to close the road to help everyone get close enough to watch the lights come on.
Lorenzo Barroso has shared videos on his social media showing how this amazing display is put together. Planning starts in the summer, and many of the handmade decorations are created by him, his family, and friends. On his Instagram (@lorenzos_xmas), you can see how more people get involved in setting up the decorations, while drivers passing by often notice signs announcing the opening.
When the sun goes down and the lights come on, make sure to visit 'The Most Christmassy House in the Canary Islands.' This year, it's also supporting a good cause: on December 6th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, they will be collecting toys at the house's entrance.
