Tenerife's La Matanza Socio-sanitary Center Expansion Progresses
Tenerife's Cabildo and La Matanza council reviewed the €11 million expansion of the La Matanza Socio-sanitary Center, adding 88 new residential and day-care spaces to address the island's waiting list for elderly care.
Tenerife's governing council (Cabildo) and La Matanza's local council met on Thursday to check on the progress of the expansion at the La Matanza Socio-sanitary Center, also known as the 'House of the Elderly'.
The expansion project, costing €11,040,407.17, will add 88 new spaces to the center. This includes 68 residential places and 20 day-care places. Once completed, the center will have a total of 130 places: 100 for residential care and 30 for day care.
Águeda Fumero, the Minister of Social Action, thanked the local council for providing the land (4,445 square meters) and handling the surrounding construction work.
The island councilor stated that working with local councils and other organizations is crucial to reducing the waiting list for these types of resources, which has historically been a problem in Tenerife.
Currently, the 'House of the Elderly' provides residential care for elderly people who need assistance. It's jointly funded by the Canary Islands Government and the Cabildo de Tenerife, offering 32 residential places and 10 day-care places. The La Matanza City Council manages the center through the Divine Shepherdess Fraternity.
