Tenerife’s IES Cruz Santa to Undergo €260,000 Emergency Roof Repairs
The Department of Education has launched a €260,000 emergency project to repair the roof of IES Cruz Santa in Los Realejos, Tenerife, following years of structural damage caused by severe weather.
The Department of Education has officially opened the bidding process to repair the roof of IES Cruz Santa in Los Realejos, Tenerife. With a budget of over 260,000 euros, the project aims to fix long-standing structural issues that have disrupted school operations.
The repairs are expected to take five months and will focus on waterproofing the building, a problem that worsened significantly following Storm Therese. The school’s deteriorating condition had become a major concern for families and staff, who have long pushed for action to ensure the building is safe and fit for use.
Iván Carro, from the General Directorate of Infrastructure and Equipment, confirmed that the project is being fast-tracked through an emergency procedure. This approach is designed to cut through red tape and quickly restore areas of the school that have been unusable due to leaks.
While this project addresses immediate safety concerns, it also highlights a broader issue: many schools in Spain often rely on emergency repairs after extreme weather rather than consistent, preventive maintenance. This renovation is intended to provide a long-term solution, finally allowing the school to return to normal operations after years of dealing with water damage.
