Tenerife’s ‘Haciendo Historia’ Festival Returns to Explore Baroque Legacy and Literary Milestones
The sixth edition of the "Haciendo Historia" festival returns to Tenerife from November 24th to 26th, featuring a multidisciplinary program that explores the enduring influence of the Baroque era alongside major literary and cinematic anniversaries.
The sixth edition of the "Haciendo Historia" (Making History) festival in Tenerife is set to be a major cultural event. Supported by the Tenerife Island Council and the La Laguna City Council, the festival aims to connect the art and literature of the 16th to 18th centuries with modern life, blending academic insight with an accessible approach.
Taking place from November 24th to 26th, the festival focuses on the Baroque period. The event will be led by writer Espido Freire, historian Miguel Ángel Cajigal (known online as "El Barroquista"), and photographer Jeosm. Together, they will explore how the Baroque era continues to shape our current aesthetics and ideas. Most sessions will be held at the Auditorio Espacio Mutua Tinerfeña, covering everything from the influence of Cervantes and Shakespeare to portrait photography techniques, with a special session at the Museum of History of La Laguna.
Beyond the Baroque theme, the festival celebrates four major literary and cinematic milestones: the 200th anniversary of James Fenimore Cooper’s The Last of the Mohicans, the 100th anniversary of Buster Keaton’s film The General (which will include live music), and the 90th anniversary of Gone with the Wind. Additionally, the festival will honor Mary Shelley on the 175th anniversary of her death with lectures at the Masonic Temple of Santa Cruz, recreating the atmosphere of Villa Diodati.
The program also features a concert by the Trío Mantova at the University of La Laguna’s Paraninfo. Those interested in attending the masterclasses can register and purchase tickets through the festival’s official website. By bringing together literature, film, and history, the event serves as a multidisciplinary hub for the public, supported by various local partners and the festival’s official airline, Binter.
