Tenerife’s Great Wine Festival Returns to Los Realejos with Focus on Sustainability

The ninth Great Tenerife Wine Festival (GFVT’26) heads to the coast of Los Realejos this Saturday, September 12. Held at El Socorro Beach, this year’s event aims to reach a wider audience by welcoming Gran Canaria as a guest territory for the first time.

The festival runs from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. and features 79 different wines alongside a diverse food menu. Tenerife will be represented by 16 wineries from the Valle de La Orotava, Islas Canarias, Abona, and Tacoronte-Acentejo regions. They will be joined by nine wineries from Gran Canaria, showcasing 15 labels under their own designation of origin. Food lovers can choose from 37 dishes across eight local establishments, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available.

Sustainability is a key focus for this year’s event. To protect the natural environment, glass containers are prohibited, and attendees will use reusable Tritan wine glasses. The organizers have also introduced a recycling incentive program where guests can earn gifts by turning in bags of collected waste.

To manage traffic, the Los Realejos City Council has launched a mobility plan that encourages the use of public transport. A free shuttle bus will run every 30 minutes, heading down to the beach from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and returning from 7:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Those driving can use designated park-and-ride lots at the Municipal Market, the San Agustín sports center, the upper access road, and the Taoro Street parking lot, which will remain open from Saturday morning through Sunday night. Taxis will also be available in the area.

This logistical effort highlights the local government's commitment to supporting the regional wine industry while protecting the coastal ecosystem and reducing the event's carbon footprint.
