Tenerife's Fogón Cho Edu, an Asturian restaurant, was named "Best Cachopo of the Canary Islands" in 2022 and is celebrated for its authentic Asturian dishes.

Cachopo is a classic dish from Asturias, a region in Spain, and a staple of its cuisine. Over time, it has become a very popular meal for visitors to the area.

Traditionally, cachopo is made with Serrano ham and a good melting cheese, like Cabrales, sandwiched between two large veal fillets. But many restaurants now create their own unique versions, adding new ingredients to the veal to make it special.

Food influencers @guachinchesmodernos recently tried what they called the best cachopo in the Canary Islands. They said it instantly took them back to Asturias – and it wasn't just the cachopo that impressed them.

That place is Fogón Cho Edu, an Asturian restaurant in Tenerife. It's been open since 2013 and is run by Eduardo Espasande, who comes from Gijón. You can find the restaurant in Arafo, conveniently located near the Southern highway exit for the Güímar industrial estate.

As one of the content creators put it, "To feel like we're truly in Asturias, all that's missing are the meadows and cows outside."

Fogón Cho Edu welcomes diners every day from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, except on Tuesdays when it closes for staff rest.

The menu at Fogón Cho Edu offers a true taste of Asturian cooking.

For starters, don't miss their handmade Iberian ham and Cabrales cheese croquettes, known for their creamy texture and rich flavour. Another highlight is the Asturian picadillo, a hearty dish of chorizo, potatoes, and fried eggs, seasoned with just enough spice to get your appetite going.

Besides cachopo, the menu also features the traditional Asturian fabada, a hearty bean stew with chorizo, blood sausage, and pork, perfect for a complete meal.

To finish your meal, the classic rice pudding is a perfect choice. Served slightly warm, it's said to be an unforgettable dessert.

In 2022, Fogón Cho Edu was named "Best Cachopo of the Canary Islands" at a national competition held in Oviedo. This prestigious event brought together 141 restaurants from across Spain and even some from other parts of the world.

Organized by the Cachopo Guide, the Tenerife restaurant won in the autonomous category and was a finalist in the meat category. This achievement firmly established Fogón Cho Edu as the go-to place for authentic Asturian flavours in the Canary Islands.
