Tenerife's First Long Weekend Set for February 2nd
Tenerife anticipates its first long weekend of the year on February 2nd, celebrating the Day of Our Lady of Candelaria on a Monday.
We've only just finished the Christmas holidays – students had about two weeks off, and many workers got extra time thanks to public holidays or leftover leave. Yet, a lot of us are already dreaming of the next long weekend.
If you live and work in Tenerife, you're in luck! You only have a few weeks to wait before you can enjoy some time off for an upcoming long weekend. And no, it's not Carnival. This long weekend actually comes before the Carnival celebrations.
It's worth noting that people in the Canary Islands get 14 public holidays each year, celebrating national, regional, or local events. For 2026, ten of these holidays are the same across all the islands. On top of these, there are three more days: two local holidays and one holiday that applies to the entire island.
The next long weekend in Tenerife is for an island-wide holiday on February 2nd, which is the Day of Our Lady of Candelaria. Since this day falls on a Monday, many people will get a three-day break, making it Tenerife's first long weekend of the year.
Of course, not everyone will get to enjoy it. Some jobs require people to work on weekends and holidays, so whether you get the time off will depend on your company.
