Tenerife’s Fimucité Marks 20th Anniversary With Star-Studded Film Music Program
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) celebrates its 20th anniversary with a diverse program of symphonic concerts, film screenings, and international guest appearances across the Canary Islands.
The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, cementing its status as a premier event on the European film score calendar. Running from July 3 to July 19, the festival’s program—announced at Santa Cruz City Hall—balances accessible public events with high-level symphonic performances.
Under the direction of Diego Navarro, this year’s festival emphasizes community engagement. A major highlight is the free opening concert this Saturday at Plaza de la Candelaria, featuring the Pop Culture Band—a festival staple for the past decade—performing iconic movie hits, followed by an electronic set from Nagoba. The festival also continues its commitment to local access with a series of outdoor film screenings at Residencial Anaga, including The Wild Robot, How to Train Your Dragon, and Hugo.
The festival maintains its reputation for artistic excellence through a robust academic and symphonic schedule. Key events include a performance by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Municipal Band at the Plaza del Príncipe on July 9 and the world premiere of Aleksander Debicz’s piano arrangements at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna. The Auditorio de Tenerife will host major highlights, such as the Spanish premiere of John Williams Reimagined and a screening of Star Wars: A New Hope accompanied by a live performance from the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Eímear Noone. The festival concludes on July 19 with a performance by the Tenerife Film Choir.
With world-renowned composers like Stephen Warbeck and John Corigliano in attendance, the festival highlights its international prestige. Supported by the Santa Cruz City Council, the Island Council of Tenerife, and the Government of the Canary Islands, the event also extends to the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. These efforts reinforce the Canary Islands' role as a vital hub for the film music industry, proving that high-quality technical artistry can successfully go hand-in-hand with mass appeal.
