Tenerife’s Fimucité Marks 20th Anniversary as Premier Film Music Hub
The 20th edition of Tenerife’s Fimucité concludes this weekend, marking two decades as a premier European film music event featuring world-renowned composers and sold-out orchestral performances.
The 20th edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité) is nearing its end, cementing its status as a key event on the European cultural calendar. Under the leadership of composer Diego Navarro, the festival has once again brought world-class film industry talent to the island, highlighting the Canary Islands as a major hub for film music.
This year’s milestone features appearances by acclaimed composers Stephen Warbeck and John Corigliano. Warbeck, known for his work on Shakespeare in Love, returns to Tenerife after 15 years, while Academy Award winner John Corigliano—celebrated for The Red Violin—is making his debut at the festival. Both have played an active role in the Film Scoring Academy, underscoring the festival’s dedication to music education.
The final days at the Auditorio de Tenerife feature an ambitious lineup. The John Williams Reimagined production, featuring Simone Pedroni, Sara Andon, and Irene Alvar, has already sold out, leading to an additional performance at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Meanwhile, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Eímear Noone, will perform the score for Star Wars: A New Hope live alongside screenings of the film.
The festival concludes this Sunday with the sold-out "Fimucité 20 Red Carpet Gala." This grand finale will feature the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the Tenerife Film Choir, and the Camerata Lacunensis, conducted by Juan Ramón Vinagre. They will be joined by a talented group of soloists, including Javier Comesaña, Marcos Pérez, Diego Pérez, Juan Carlos Cantero, Gonzalo de Araoz, Satomi Morimoto, and vocalists Cristina Ramos, Estefanía Rodríguez, Aborá Cel, Zuleyma Medina, and Ciro Moreno, for a retrospective of iconic film music.
The festival’s strong attendance and high-profile guests reflect the success of a project backed by the Cabildo de Tenerife, Tourism of Tenerife, the Santa Cruz and La Laguna City Councils, and the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development. This ongoing support has kept the festival vital for two decades, keeping film music at the heart of the region's cultural life.
