Tenerife’s Famtàstic Festival to Host Solar Eclipse Event at Casa del Vino
The Famtàstic festival will host Eclipse (Space Special Vol. 2) at Tenerife’s Casa del Vino on August 12, featuring guided solar observations, a celestial-themed menu by chef Aridani Alonso, and a multidisciplinary program of film and music.
On August 12, the Famtàstic festival will host Eclipse (Space Special Vol. 2) at the Casa del Vino in El Sauzal, Tenerife. This multidisciplinary event blends astronomy with local food, film, and music to celebrate the partial solar eclipse visible from the Canary Islands.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a set by DJ Claudia Rutten and the unveiling of the art installation Eclipses-Infinito. The main attraction, the guided solar observation, takes place between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., when the sun will be 70% obscured. For safety, all attendees must use certified solar filters.
Chef Aridani Alonso, a Repsol Sol recipient and Michelin Guide honoree, has created a special menu inspired by the sun and moon. Dishes like the "Lunar Sphere" and "Solar System" will be paired with local wines from the Cumbres de Abona Cooperative and regional delicacies, including Queso de Flor de Guía, Canarian Gofio, and Reineta apples. Beekeeper Juan José Hernández will also be on hand to showcase Tenerife Honey and discuss sustainable beekeeping.
The cultural program features a film selection curated by the Seoul International Extreme-Short Image & Film Festival and the Festivalito de La Palma. The lineup includes everything from historical works by Georges Méliès to the short film Souls of Totality. The evening concludes with a live performance by the duo Mambec—Diego Barber and Akior García—who have composed a unique soundscape for the event.
This gathering highlights a growing trend in Spain: using natural phenomena as a backdrop to showcase local culinary and artistic heritage. By combining science with leisure, the event offers an immersive way for visitors and locals alike to connect with the island’s culture and environment.
