Tenerife’s El Borgoñón de Sandra Gains Popularity as Authentic Local Dining Destination
Punta del Hidalgo’s El Borgoñón de Sandra has gained popularity for its authentic, affordable Canarian cuisine and traditional guachinche-style dining near the coast.
Punta del Hidalgo in Tenerife is gaining attention in the local food scene thanks to a recent review by the content creators @guachinchesmodernos, who spotlighted a local favorite: El Borgoñón de Sandra. Located at Camino La Costa, 4, the restaurant has become a go-to spot for those wanting to pair a day at the natural swimming pools with authentic island cooking.
The restaurant follows the tradition of guachinches—small, informal eateries that started in northern Tenerife when winegrowers began serving their surplus wine alongside simple, homemade meals. The menu here focuses on classic local dishes, including tuna salpicón, potato salad, sardines, fish churros, and carne fiesta. Their "English-style eggs" have also become a standout favorite among regulars.
Beyond the staples, the kitchen occasionally experiments with unique offerings, such as milanesa made from black pork sourced from Tegueste, though this is not always on the menu. They have also started serving homemade desserts, a welcome upgrade from the standard industrial ice cream often found in similar venues.
El Borgoñón de Sandra is open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch, with Mondays set aside for staff rest. If you plan to visit, keep in mind that they only accept cash. The pricing remains very competitive; in the recent review, a group of five enjoyed a meal for a total of 46.90 euros. Its prime location just steps from the coast makes it an ideal stop for residents and visitors exploring the San Cristóbal de La Laguna area.
