Tenerife offers a packed weekend with cinema, diverse Carnival celebrations, religious festivities in Candelaria, and multiple football and basketball matches across the island.

Tenerife is packed with activities this weekend, thanks to a mix of public and private events designed to keep everyone entertained. From cinema and Carnival celebrations to sports, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a different kind of weekend. So, if you were thinking of staying home, get ready to open your closet – you won't want to miss out!

At TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, catch Yunan, the new film by Syrian director Ameer Fakher Eldin, screening this weekend at 7:00 PM. This movie explores themes of exile and the sense of home. It's Eldin's second feature, following The Stranger (2021), which was shortlisted for an Oscar in 2022 representing Palestine. Yunan follows Munir, an exiled Arab writer living in Hamburg, as he navigates a deep personal crisis. The film, starring George Khabbaz and Hanna Schygulla, is shown in its original German and Arabic with Spanish subtitles, offering an evocative and visually powerful experience that encourages reflection.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set for a major Carnival event this Saturday: the grand finale of the Adult Murgas Contest. Eight groups – La Sonora, Diablos Locos, Diabólicas, Triqui-Traques, Tiralenguas, Zeta-Zetas, Trapaseros, and Bambones – will showcase their best performances. The audience will also enjoy a show by Nueva Línea, Tenerife's most popular orchestra.

Carnival celebrations continue on Sunday with the Musical Groups Contest, featuring performances from Pico Cho Canino, Antón Guanche Candelaria, Volcanes del Teide, Tercera edad Tegueste, Las incansables de Icod, Mayores del 2000, Con nuestra gente Chincanayros, Fraisa, and Monte Nevado.

This weekend, Candelaria will host various events to honour its Patron Saint. On Saturday, activities include a walk along the Camino Viejo, a Eucharist service and the Holy Rosary, a concert by the Voces para la Esperanza choir, and a performance by singer Tamara. On Sunday, multiple Eucharist services will be held throughout the day, culminating in the Procession of the Candelas.

Sports fans also have plenty to look forward to this weekend. On Saturday, the Primera RFEF football match between CD Tenerife and CD Guadalajara kicks off at 3:15 PM at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium.

Sunday sees more action at the same venue, with Costa Adeje Tenerife facing Real Sociedad in a Liga F match at 12:00 PM. Later in the afternoon, at 5:00 PM, the Santiago Martín pavilion will host a basketball game between La Laguna Tenerife and Baskonia.
