San Juan de la Rambla has awarded a two-million-euro contract to restore the 18th-century Casona Delgado Oramas and transform the historic property into the town's first rural hotel.

The restoration of the Casona Delgado Oramas in San Juan de la Rambla marks a significant step forward for historical preservation in northern Tenerife. The local government has officially awarded a contract to transform this 18th-century property into the town’s first rural hotel, with an investment exceeding two million euros.

Construction firm Víctor Rodríguez e Hijos SLU has been selected to carry out the project, which is expected to take two years. This timeline is essential, as the 594-square-meter building on Calle La Alhóndiga requires careful restoration to protect its historic features, including its central courtyard, open galleries, and original woodwork and roofing.

To ensure the renovation meets strict standards, the project underwent a budget review to comply with the Tenerife Island Council’s Historical Heritage Unit. This ensures that the building’s new role as a hotel will not damage its architectural integrity. Under the guidance of the Department of Municipal Works, the design divides the space into functional areas: the ground floor and gardens will house the reception, common areas, a swimming pool, and a solarium, while the upper floors will provide guest rooms, including two suites on the top level.

This project reflects a broader trend across the Canary Islands: repurposing historic buildings into high-quality tourist destinations. By converting the Casona Delgado Oramas, the town aims to offer unique accommodation while protecting its historic center from decay. Ultimately, the project serves as a model for balancing the preservation of cultural heritage with the need to boost the local economy in rural areas.
