Tenerife Robbery Trial: Prosecutors Reconsider Sentences for Georgian Trio
Prosecutors in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have significantly altered their requested sentences for three Georgian men accused of multiple home robberies, reconsidering the application of the 'continuous crime' rule.
Yesterday, a key court hearing took place at the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the case against three Georgian men. During the session, prosecutors announced a major change to the sentences they were seeking. Reports suggest that the prosecutor's office has reconsidered applying the 'continuous crime' rule to the robbery charges, which could significantly alter the prison terms initially proposed.
Originally, the private prosecutor had asked for six years and nine months in prison for the group's alleged leader, and six years and three months for the other two defendants. These charges were for robbing occupied homes and handling stolen goods. The accused are said to have broken into fourteen homes, likely using 'bump' keys or lock picks. From these homes, 194 pieces of jewelry and 5,500 euros in cash were reportedly stolen.
The three men, who are still being held in custody since their arrest at Tenerife South Airport, appeared in court. During the hearing, prosecutors also asked to temporarily drop the complaints made by about a dozen other victims. Meanwhile, the lawyer for one of the accused asked for his wife and three daughters to testify. The aim was to show the court the difficult financial situation that, they argued, led him to commit the crimes.
