Retailers across Tenerife are setting varied operating hours for Canary Islands Day on May 30, prompting officials to advise shoppers to check specific store schedules before visiting.

Canary Islands Day, celebrated on May 30 to mark the 1983 opening of the regional Parliament, brings a mixed bag of shopping hours across Tenerife this year. Because large retailers and supermarket chains are setting their own schedules for this public holiday, it is best to check the specific hours for your local store before heading out.

This trend of staying open on institutional holidays reflects how modern shopping habits are shifting away from traditional work calendars. While some stores are choosing to remain open all day, others are opting for limited hours. For example, Mercadona will only be open in the morning, closing its doors at noon.

In the metropolitan area, the Meridiano shopping center will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., while El Corte Inglés on Avenida Tres de Mayo will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. For groceries, Alcampo in La Laguna will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and the La Villa location in La Orotava will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Other popular shopping spots will also be open. In the north, Las Pirámides de Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz will welcome customers from 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Additionally, Siam Mall in the south and the Carrefour in Añaza have confirmed they will be open throughout the day. These varying hours are possible because businesses in the Canary Islands have the freedom to set their own schedules on public holidays, provided they stay within local regulations.
