The Tenerife Island Council has restricted access to seven high-mountain trails in Teide National Park due to hazardous ice and snow conditions following recent storms.

Bad weather on Tenerife’s peaks this Sunday, November 1, has led the Island Council to restrict access to seven high-mountain trails in Teide National Park. Following a recent storm, patches of ice and snow have made the volcanic terrain hazardous, prompting these safety measures.

The park remains open, but access to these specific trails is now conditional. To hike them, visitors must either be members of a mountaineering federation or be accompanied by a professional guide authorized by the park. Additionally, hikers are required to use technical equipment, such as crampons, to navigate the icy paths safely.

Authorizations must be managed through the Tenerife ON website. Please note that having a reservation does not replace the need for proper safety gear or the technical skills required for high-altitude mountaineering. The Island Council has not yet announced when these restrictions will be lifted, as reopening the trails depends on future weather conditions.

These measures reflect the challenges of managing high-altitude areas, where bad weather can quickly turn standard paths into difficult, technical climbs. The Council urges the public to be extremely cautious and to check the status of all trails on the official website before planning any trips to the island's highest points.
