Tenerife Restaurant Serves Spain's Largest Arepa, Weighing Nearly a Kilogram
A Venezuelan restaurant in Tenerife, Spain, has created the country's largest arepa, a nearly kilogram-sized culinary creation that has become a permanent menu fixture due to its immense popularity.
The biggest arepa in Spain can be found in Tenerife, specifically in the town of Santa Úrsula. What began as a special offer has become a huge hit. A Venezuelan restaurant there has created the country's largest arepa, a culinary feat weighing almost a kilogram.
Venezuelan arepas have become a favourite in the Canary Islands recently. With popular fillings like "reina pepiada" (chicken and avocado), "pelúa" (shredded beef and cheese), or "perico" (scrambled eggs with vegetables), they are now a top choice for both locals and visitors.
Estación 58's giant arepa has gone viral, making it the largest in the Canary Islands and all of Spain.
The restaurant introduced an extra-large version of their arepa in August. It was so popular that they decided to keep it on the menu permanently.
The dough alone weighs half a kilogram, and when filled, the whole arepa tips the scales at around one kilogram, making it the largest in the region and the country.
This massive arepa is made to order because it takes longer to cook and prepare.
Estación 58 offers a true taste of Venezuela, with starters like homemade tequeños (fried cheese sticks), patacones (fried plantains), and chicharrones (pork crackling). They also serve traditional drinks such as Frescolita and papelón with lemon.
For dessert, try the Clipper arepa, a sweet treat inspired by a well-known Canarian soft drink, or the "chica venezolana," a creamy drink made with rice, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.
Customers often say, "Every bite transports you straight to Caracas," describing the restaurant as a piece of Venezuela in northern Tenerife.
You can find Estación 58 at Carretera Provincial, 34, Santa Úrsula (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). It's a must-visit for Venezuelan food fans and anyone up for a challenge.
The restaurant is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays for staff rest.
