Tenerife Resolves Decade-Long Labor Dispute at Empresa Insular de Artesanía
Empresa Insular de Artesanía S.A. has resolved a decade-long administrative dispute by standardizing working conditions and unifying collective agreements for its staff under a new labor framework.
A new labor agreement at Empresa Insular de Artesanía S.A. has finally resolved an administrative issue that had persisted for over a decade. According to the Cabildo de Tenerife, the company has successfully standardized working conditions for its staff, ending the contractual fragmentation that had complicated operations since a 2013 restructuring.
The problem began when the company absorbed the Foundation for the Center for Documentation and Research of the Crafts of Spain and America (CDIAEA). This merger, intended to streamline the public sector, resulted in employees working side-by-side under different collective agreements and regulations, despite sharing the same goals. This lack of a unified structure meant that staff roles—ranging from research and training to museum management—did not always align with their professional classifications.
Led by Councilor Efraín Medina, the normalization process involved close coordination between the company and the Cabildo’s Human Resources department. Throughout 2025, the teams worked to define new professional categories and update salary scales. This change aims to ensure internal fairness and provide the stability needed to manage the island’s artisanal heritage more effectively.
Cabildo President Rosa Dávila described the agreement as a matter of organizational justice, noting that it aligns the workforce with the company’s current responsibilities. By finalizing this framework, the island administration has resolved years of instability, allowing the Empresa Insular de Artesanía to focus on its mission of preserving Tenerife’s cultural identity with a structure that finally matches its needs.
