Tenerife Reservoirs 70% Full, Council Still Urges Water Caution
Tenerife's council urges residents and farmers to continue water conservation efforts, despite reservoirs being 70% full, to ensure sufficient reserves for the entire year and upcoming farming season.
Tenerife's island council, the Cabildo, is asking everyone – residents and farmers – to keep using water carefully. This advice comes even though the island's reservoirs are currently 70% full, holding over 3.5 million cubic meters of water. This amount is crucial for planning the upcoming farming season.
The council's figures show that 3,538,744 cubic meters of water are specifically for farm irrigation. This is 180,434 cubic meters more than last month. It's also a significant improvement from last year, with nearly a million cubic meters more water than at the same time in the previous year.
Even though the situation is good and the water emergency was officially ended in late February, Valentín González, the Cabildo's Councilor for Agriculture, still urges caution. He recommends that residents and farmers continue to save water and manage it wisely to ensure there are enough reserves throughout the entire year.
Water levels vary across the island. Reservoirs in the north hold 2.3 million cubic meters, while those in the south have 1.18 million cubic meters, which is 73.6% of their total capacity. The Cabildo also mentioned that the Valle San Lorenzo pond is currently closed for maintenance and upgrades.
