Tenerife Reservoirs 41% Full After Storm Emilia
Storm Emilia boosted Tenerife's water reservoirs to 41% capacity, adding 110,000 cubic meters and significantly improving agricultural supply for the coming months.
Tenerife's water reservoirs are now 41% full, following Storm Emilia. Valentín González, the island's Councilor for Primary Sector, reported that the rain over the past two days added 110,000 cubic meters of water to the reservoirs, a notable increase compared to the beginning of December.
The storm's impact was most significant in the north of the island, an area that holds most of Tenerife's water storage facilities. Reservoirs in the north gained about 80,000 cubic meters of water, while those in the south saw an increase of 30,000 cubic meters.
The Valle Molina reservoir in Tegueste received the most water, collecting over 30,000 cubic meters. This aligns with the 47.6 liters per square meter of rain recorded in that area over five days. The reservoir in Aguamansa, La Orotava, also benefited significantly, gaining 12,000 cubic meters.
In the south, the Lomo del Balo reservoir saw the biggest increase, adding 14,000 cubic meters after the storm, with 35.5 liters of rain per square meter recorded over five days. Overall, compared to the same date in 2024, the reservoirs currently hold 394,000 cubic meters more water.
Valentín González concluded by saying that "this increase puts our water reserves in a much better position for managing supply in the coming months, which is vital for Tenerife's agriculture."
