The El Caletón natural pools in Garachico are once again open for swimming after tests confirmed the water is safe.

In Garachico, you can swim in the El Caletón natural pools again! Local authorities have announced that the water there is clean and safe because the tests showed good results.

A few days ago, on Tuesday, the pools were temporarily closed because one of the tests found too many E. coli bacteria. To check if this was a coincidence, another analysis was done.

And now, today it became known that the water meets all standards again, and you can swim without any problems. This was reported by the sanitary inspection and the laboratory from Tenerife.

The city council assured that they had checked the sewage system and found no leaks that could contaminate the water.

The authorities apologized for the temporary inconvenience.

What is E. coli? It is a bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and animals. Most of them are not harmful, but if there are too many of them in the water, it can be dangerous.

Usually, E. coli appears in water due to fecal contamination, for example, after rain or due to problems with the sewage system. Its presence means that there may be other harmful microbes in the water.
