Tenerife is at the World Travel Market in London this week to strengthen its crucial ties with the UK, its most important tourist market, and attract lifestyle and luxury visitors amid slowing growth.

Tenerife is at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London this week, from tomorrow, November 4th, until Thursday, November 6th. The island's goal is to strengthen its travel links with the UK and attract visitors interested in its lifestyle and luxury offerings.

Tenerife's Island Council reported yesterday that the UK is the island's most important tourist market. Last year, 2.74 million British tourists visited Tenerife, marking a 9.7% increase compared to 2023. The Council noted that while numbers for the current year are still good, the rapid growth seen in previous years has started to slow down.

In the first nine months of this year, 1,555,048 visitors stayed in hotels and apartments on the island.

The Island Council also highlighted Tenerife's strong connections with the UK, stating it is the top Canary Island for flights from Britain and attracts the most British tourists among all the Canary Islands. In 2024, Tenerife accounted for 44% of all British air travel and tourism to the Canary Islands.

During WTM, Tenerife representatives will hold meetings with various airlines, travel agencies, and tour operators. These include Equator Global, Wanderlust, World2Meet, TUI, Barrhead Travel, British Airways and British Airways Holidays, Viasale, On The Beach, Passporter, ATAS, Odeon Tours, and Coral Travel. They also plan interviews with media companies like Breaking Travel News, TravelMole, Travel Bulletin, The Daily Telegraph, Monocle, and Pacific Productions.

Lope Afonso, the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, commented, "The World Travel Market is an important platform to strengthen Tenerife's excellent relationship with the British market and to keep expanding our connections with the United Kingdom. Our aim is to boost the island's standing as a top choice for visitors, by working with airlines and tour operators to ensure Tenerife remains an accessible and attractive option."
