Tenerife Pride March to be Held in La Orotava on June 27
Tenerife’s annual island-wide Pride march will take place in La Orotava on June 27, continuing a strategic effort to promote LGBTIQA+ visibility and activism beyond the island's major urban centers.
The fight for LGBTIQA+ rights in Tenerife is once again moving beyond the island’s major cities. Organizers have announced that this year’s island-wide Pride demonstration will be held in La Orotava on Saturday, June 27. This follows a deliberate strategy to bring activism to smaller towns and regions rather than keeping it confined to the capitals.
This year’s theme, "Even if they want us on the margins, Pride marks the north," highlights the importance of being visible across the entire island. The event is backed by a coalition of groups, including Aperttura, Transwomen, Transboys, Libertrans, Diversas, Caminar Intersex, Fundación Pedro Zerolo, LGBTIQ+ Tacoronte Comarca de Acentejo, Iris, and Realidades. By choosing La Orotava, organizers are continuing their tradition of rotating the march between different locations—such as Puerto de la Cruz, La Laguna, El Médano, and Santa Cruz—to ensure diverse communities are included in the movement.
The march will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Doña Chana Cultural Park on Avenida Mercedes Pinto de Armas. The route will follow Avenida Emilio Luque Moreno, Avenida de Canarias, Calle Calvario, and Calle Carrera del Escultor Estévez, ending at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. There, the organizers will read a joint manifesto outlining their current demands and challenging efforts to push LGBTIQA+ people to the fringes of public life.
The event is open to everyone, and organizers are encouraging support from unions, political parties, and feminist and environmental groups. This mobilization reinforces the belief that protecting diversity is a fundamental right that must be defended in every corner of the island, ensuring that visibility is not limited only to large urban centers.
