Tenerife President Rosa Dávila reported significant job growth and economic stability in 2025, while advocating for a sustainable tourism model that prioritizes resident well-being and environmental respect over visitor numbers.

Rosa Dávila, the president of the Tenerife Island Council, reflected on 2025, stating that the island's leadership focused on stability, strengthening the economy, and creating jobs. She also emphasized the importance of a tourism model that isn't solely measured by visitor numbers.

Speaking at a press conference, Dávila highlighted that tourism, which was Tenerife's main economic driver in 2025, should also be valued for the well-being it brings to residents, its respect for the local environment, and its sustainability. She called for a balanced approach to tourism that eases the strain on the island's services and resources, offers a wider variety of experiences, and protects the quality of life for people living in Tenerife all year round.

"Millions of visitors came to Tenerife, which supports jobs and the economy," she stated. Dávila also pointed to the Island Council's efforts in housing and protecting the land.

She explained that in 2025, nearly 430,000 people were registered with Social Security in Tenerife. This was an increase of 17,385 workers from the previous year, and a 4.22% rise, which is higher than the average for the Canary Islands.

Dávila also noted that the number of young people under 25 registered with Social Security went up by almost 17%, compared to the regional average of 15%. She added that Tenerife was responsible for nearly half of all new job contracts signed across the Canary Islands.
