Pope Leo XIV is set to conclude his week-long tour of Spain with a historic visit to Tenerife on June 12, featuring a major public Mass and meetings with vulnerable communities.

Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Tenerife on June 12 is set to be a significant logistical and security operation for the local Diocese. Bishop Eloy Santiago confirmed that the Pope will wrap up his week-long tour of Spain on the island, with a busy schedule of official and religious events.

A Vatican delegation is overseeing the preparations, which include hosting 50,000 people at the Santa Cruz port for a 12:15 p.m. Mass. To manage the crowds, attendees must pre-register to be assigned to specific sectors. Gates will open at 6:30 a.m. The altar, designed by architect Alejandro Beautell, will feature the Christ of La Laguna and the Virgin of Candelaria, both of which will be moved to the site under strict security in the early morning.

The Pope is scheduled to arrive at Los Rodeos Airport at 9:10 a.m. He will travel by motorcade to the Las Raíces reception center to meet with migrants and aid workers. He will then head to Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna to meet with groups that support vulnerable people. This event will also feature the debut of the official visit hymn, directed by Pablo Cebrián or Estefanía Benedicto.

Following this, the Pope will travel through Viana and San Agustín streets in a small buggy to greet the sick and people with disabilities. He will then switch to the Popemobile near La Salle school to travel through the main streets of the capital toward the port.

Because of potential fog, the Diocese has a backup plan with Aena to divert the Pope’s flight to Reina Sofía Airport in the south if necessary. While Bishop Santiago is confident the original schedule will hold, he noted that any changes would require a quick adjustment to the day's timing.

To keep the crowd entertained, performances by Los Sabandeños, Chago Melián, and Deacon Alejandro Abrante’s animation group will begin at 10:00 a.m. For security reasons, the venue will provide 20,000 seats, and attendees are prohibited from bringing folding furniture or aluminum containers; only plastic water bottles are permitted. Church officials have called the visit a historic milestone, and a final Vatican inspection will soon confirm the details of the security operation, which will involve thousands of staff throughout the six-hour event.
