The recent breakdown at the Ricasa substation in Guargacho has exposed the fragility of the electrical infrastructure in southern Tenerife. Endesa has confirmed that the main transformer suffered severe internal damage, leading to a power outage that left thousands of residents in Arona and San Miguel without electricity for over 17 hours.
Because the internal components are beyond repair, the company has ruled out a quick fix. Technicians report that the transformer requires a complete overhaul, including the replacement of windings, wiring, and protection systems. Endesa estimates that these repairs will take several months to complete. In the meantime, the region will rely on temporary generators to maintain power.
