Tenerife Police Hunt Organized Gang Behind String of Violent Jewelry Store Heists
Spanish authorities have launched a joint investigation into a series of professional, high-speed jewelry store robberies in Tenerife carried out by suspects on stolen motorcycles.
Security forces in Tenerife are on high alert as they work to dismantle an organized criminal group following a string of violent robberies at high-end stores. Over the past weekend, the same jewelry chain was targeted twice in just twenty-four hours.
The attackers’ methods suggest careful planning and professional execution. In both instances—at the Concorde shopping center in Taco and on the Rambla de Los Menceyes in Candelaria—the suspects arrived on stolen motorcycles. They used sledgehammers to smash display cases, specifically targeting gold jewelry before fleeing toward the TF-1 highway.
The National Police and the Civil Guard are leading a joint investigation. The case is particularly challenging due to the speed of the raids; in Candelaria, the robbery took place while employees were present and was over in little more than a minute. The perpetrators also took steps to hide their identities, wearing full-face helmets throughout the attacks to evade security cameras and witnesses.
While the investigation is ongoing, witnesses have reported that the two suspects spoke with a Latin American accent. Police are currently analyzing potential links between the two crimes, while the jewelry chain works to determine the total value of the stolen goods. Because of the violent nature of these robberies and the use of heavy tools, authorities are conducting a detailed analysis of escape routes and the stolen vehicles to build their case.
