Tenerife Police Dismantle Teenage Gang Behind String of Business Robberies

Police in Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife, have dismantled a group of minors linked to a recent rise in local property crime. Known as "Operation Pueri," the investigation led to the arrest of three local teenagers accused of committing a dozen robberies at area businesses.

Investigators from the local Civil Guard station found that the group used a simple but destructive method: breaking storefront windows in the early morning hours to steal valuables. The investigation began after a spike in robbery reports across the municipality throughout March and April, prompting police to increase surveillance and analyze evidence more closely.

Because the suspects are minors, the case is being handled by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Under Spain’s Organic Law on the Criminal Responsibility of Minors, these cases focus on a mix of punishment, education, and reintegration, rather than the standard criminal process used for adults.

The resolution of these crimes highlights how police intelligence can identify patterns to catch repeat offenders. While authorities are still investigating whether others were involved, the case has sparked a public discussion about the need for better security and prevention measures in the island’s commercial districts.
