Tenerife Police Arrest Repeat Offender Following Domestic Assault in La Laguna

The issue of repeat offenders in gender-based violence cases is back in the spotlight following a recent assault in Tenerife. Local police in La Laguna have arrested a 48-year-old man who already had six open cases for similar crimes.

The incident occurred last Tuesday around 6:20 p.m. in the San Matías neighborhood. Police were called to a property on San Nicolás Street after a neighbor reported a heated dispute. The victim managed to escape the home and was assisted by officers about 200 meters away. She reported that the man had threatened her life, specifically warning that he would throw her out of a window.

The arrest involved both the Local Police and the National Police. Although the suspect initially barricaded himself inside the house, he eventually surrendered to officers. He was taken to the La Laguna police station to await a court appearance.

This case has highlighted the vulnerability of people in short-term living arrangements, a situation that neighbors say had already caused concern due to repeated violent incidents in recent weeks. The suspect’s history of violence underscores the urgent need for strong protection protocols when there is a clear risk of escalation. Authorities are now reviewing his criminal record to determine the necessary legal precautions.
