Tenerife Pledges €1 Million in Emergency Aid for Venezuela Earthquake Relief

The Cabildo de Tenerife is responding to the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela following the recent earthquake, underscoring the deep historical and personal ties between the island and the South American nation. The local government has announced a one-million-euro aid package to help those affected by the disaster, which has worsened an already difficult socioeconomic situation in the country.

The initiative, led by the Department of Tourism, Foreign Action, and Institutional Relations, will provide direct grants to ensure aid is delivered as quickly as possible. By bypassing standard competitive bidding processes, the Cabildo aims to get funds immediately to organizations already working on the ground. This will help provide essential healthcare, medicine, and basic supplies to the most vulnerable people.

The aid will be distributed through a network of humanitarian groups and organizations representing the Canarian community in Venezuela. Current partners include the Spanish Red Cross, Cáritas Diocesana de Tenerife, Bosco Global, the Unión Canaria Association of Venezuela, the Federation of Canarian Entities in Venezuela (Fecave), the España Salud Foundation, and the Hogar Canario Venezolano. The Cabildo noted that this list may be updated as conditions on the ground change.

This funding follows a commitment made by the Cabildo’s Plenary to support the Venezuelan population. For the island's vice president, this contribution is both a necessary response to an emergency and a symbol of Tenerife’s lasting commitment to a community with deep emotional ties to the archipelago. The allocation, which also covers logistics and transport, represents one of the Cabildo's most significant international aid efforts this year.
