Tenerife Pedestrian Death Renews Road Safety Concerns
A woman died Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle on the TF-653 road in Arona, southern Tenerife, prompting a Civil Guard investigation and renewing road safety concerns.
Concerns about road safety in the Canary Islands have resurfaced after a woman, believed to be around 40, tragically died on Saturday on the TF-653 road in Arona, southern Tenerife. Emergency services (CECOES 112) reported that the woman was hit by a vehicle. This tragic event highlights how vulnerable pedestrians are on our roads and the critical need for everyone to be extremely careful when travelling.
The alarm was raised at 6:51 AM. Emergency services were immediately dispatched, including two ambulances from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) – one with advanced medical equipment and another for basic life support. A doctor and nurse from the local health centre also attended, alongside officers from the Civil Guard and Local Police, and Road Service staff. This was a coordinated response, typical for such serious incidents.
When paramedics arrived, they found the woman in cardiac arrest. Despite immediate CPR efforts by both the health centre staff and the SUC team, they were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Civil Guard has launched an investigation to determine exactly what happened. This is standard procedure to look into factors like speed, visibility, and whether traffic rules were followed, and to assign any potential responsibility.
