The Tenerife Island Council and public broadcaster RTVC have signed a multi-year agreement to integrate advanced monitoring technology and meteorological expertise to improve emergency response and combat misinformation during natural disasters.

Tenerife is upgrading its emergency response through a new partnership between the Island Council (Cabildo) and the public broadcaster, Radiotelevisión Canaria (RTVC). The two organizations have signed a four-year agreement—which can be extended to eight—to better manage forest fires, floods, and other severe weather events.

This collaboration combines the Cabildo’s advanced monitoring technology, such as thermal cameras and real-time data systems, with the expertise of RTVC’s meteorology team. The goal is to improve how officials prepare for emergencies while ensuring the public receives accurate, reliable information. By using official channels, the partnership aims to prevent the spread of misinformation during critical situations.

Cabildo President Rosa Dávila and Minister of Security and Emergencies Blanca Pérez noted that this protocol ensures that emergency decisions are based on precise data, in line with the Island Territorial Emergency Plan. RTVC’s General Administrator, César Toledo, and head meteorologist, Vicky Palma, added that while they have worked together informally in the past, this agreement provides a stronger, more structured framework for their cooperation.

The project is intended to serve as a model for the rest of the Canary Islands. Officials hope to expand this network to other island governments, establishing a system where verified information is treated as a vital tool for public safety. Island Director of Security and Emergencies, Iván Martín, will oversee the implementation of this initiative, which aims to make the island more resilient to emergencies.
