Tenerife has opened a new campervan service facility at the La Guancha Logistics Center to regulate motorhome tourism and prevent illegal waste dumping across the island.

Tenerife has taken a major step toward managing campervan tourism with the opening of a new facility at the La Guancha Logistics Center. The island’s Council (Cabildo) launched this project to better regulate motorhome travel in the north, addressing a long-standing request from travelers who previously had no authorized places to dispose of waste in that area.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to balance the popularity of campervan travel with the need to protect Tenerife’s natural landscapes. Blanca Pérez, the Councilor for the Natural Environment, explained that providing proper facilities—including stations for emptying waste tanks and refilling drinking water—is a key strategy to prevent illegal dumping and protect the island’s ecological value.

The need for these services is clear. During the first month of operation, the island’s existing network in Arona and Santa Cruz saw 166 users. The capital’s facility was particularly busy, averaging seven vehicles per day over a two-week period.

The new La Guancha site is part of the Cabildo’s long-term plan to integrate these services into all of the island’s waste collection points. By professionalizing how waste is handled, the Council aims to support the growing campervan tourism sector while ensuring it remains sustainable. The positive feedback from the caravanning community suggests that providing these public services is the most effective way to manage the environmental impact of this popular travel trend.
