Tenerife Offers Packed Weekend of Events
Tenerife offers a vibrant weekend with film screenings, diverse Christmas markets, a 70s-90s music fair, a comedy show, and a football match.
Tenerife is packed with activities this weekend, thanks to efforts from both public and private groups to keep the island lively. From film and music to sports, there are plenty of ways to enjoy a few different days. So, if you were planning a quiet weekend at home, get ready to change your mind – you'll want to check out some of these events!
This weekend at 7:00 PM, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is showing La sabana y la montaña (The Savannah and the Mountain). This film is a poetic, political, and community-focused piece that blends environmental themes with local traditions and tales of resistance. Directed by Paulo Carneiro, it tells the story of Covas do Barroso, a community in northern Portugal. Residents there discover that a British company, Savannah Resources, plans to build Europe's largest open-pit lithium mine very close to their homes. To fight this threat, the community organizes to stop the mining, protecting their land, their way of life, and the environmental values important to them. The movie is in Portuguese with Spanish subtitles.
It's a great weekend to explore Tenerife's various Christmas markets. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, you can visit the Gastro Market Tenerife Fest, which offers live music and delicious food. There's also the El Corte Inglés market, a unique spot where you can find little gifts. Over in La Laguna, the 2025 Christmas Craft Exhibition just opened this Friday. And these are just a few – you'll discover even more markets across the island.
This Saturday, December 20th, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting a free 'Verbena Cósmica' (Cosmic Fair) in San Carlos Square, right next to the Government Presidency building. This unique event features music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, along with food and crafts. It's designed for an audience over 35.
Canarian comedian Petite Lorena will be at the Leal Theater in La Laguna this Sunday, December 21st. Her show, 'Tremenda,' is described as a performance that goes beyond modern trends, drawing instead from the rich oral traditions of our grandmothers – something truly authentic that can't be summed up by a simple 'like'.
For sports fans, there's a football match this weekend: CD Tenerife takes on SD Ponferradina in the Primera RFEF league. The game kicks off at 5:30 PM at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium.
